![]() ![]() Thunderstorms are frequent companions in the "Sunshine State." Living in Florida, I need those rain alerts. I do wish Notifications weren't hidden behind an additional paywall, because, honestly, it's the one thing that's keeping Dark Sky in my Weather folder right now. With a membership you can select from either Dark Sky or Wunderground for your Data Source, switch over to Dark Mode, get access to alternate app icons, create a daily alert notification (along with a bunch of other notifications), and create customizations for the Apple Watch app (if you go Ultrapremium, you can use Wunderground for the watch app data source). There's a great radar with tons of filters (many unlockable via membership). If you dive deeper into the settings, you can also check out Achievements that reward you for all sorts of dubious accomplishments, go on a global scavenger hunt for interesting locations, and engage in a bit of time travel (to see if it really was warmer/colder/wetter/drier back in your day). Yeah, maybe you don't need it, but you'll be glad it's there. Or, you can make it a foul-mouthed, homicidal computer that despises you just for existing and using the app. You can tune it to be friendly, where it gives you positive observations about the weather and life in general. You can make it completely professional, where it gives you just the facts and nothing more. How snarky is up to you.ĬARROT Weather can be tailored to your liking. Instead of a line about what the weather's doing, you'll get a snarky message. Where things really get interesting though is when you glance below the standard weather forecast at the top of the app. The majority of the screen is dedicated to the hourly forecast, a clear-cut, at-a-glance visual of how the weather is going to play out for the day. Pressing the 10-day forecast at the bottom of the app switches over to a short description of each day's weather. If rain is eminent, there's a Dark Sky-esque graph. The app is free t o download, but it offers three different tiers of subscriptions to unlock additional features.Pulling data from either Dark Sky or Weather Underground (you can choose between them with a membership, more on that in a bit), the resultant display is clean and easy to parse. Last but not least, with Premium Ultra, you can use NEXRAD Level 3 derived products to track severe weather, such as Accumulation Array, Storm Total Accumulation, Hydrometeor Classification, Storm Relative Velocity, Enhanced Echo Tops, and Vertically Integrated Liquid.ĬARROT Weather has also added three new secret locations to track down, redesigned storm cells to improve their legibility on the map, and also fixed the Time Machine to allow travel back to the future. With version 5.10, you can also receive alerts about nearby lightning strikes in Europe, Central America, and the Caribbean. ![]() The app is also expanding weather alerts, so users can get push notifications from the government in Canada, Europe, and Israel, including support for monitoring multiple locations and adding Critical Alerts and mute filters. This includes access to the Inspector feature, which requires the Premium Ultra tier, and support for changing the color palette. In addition, CARROT has expanded the high-quality radar for every European country, including Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. That said, it’s important to note that ChatGPT is just a fun integration with the app, as you only get five free messages, and then it asks you to tip to continue the conversation due to the high cost of the ChatGPT API. ![]()
